• Jon McGill Appointed As New Head of School

    (Henderson, Nev.) The Meritas International Family of Schools has appointed
    Jon McGill Head of School at The Henderson International School’s three campuses in Henderson, Nevada.

    As the head of school, McGill will be the support agent for virtually every aspect of the school. He will oversee the school’s three campuses – Windmill, Sun Ridge and Sandy Ridge; supervise recruitment and retention of faculty; and conduct the overall charge of academic programs, student services and welfare.

    McGill previously worked as Headmaster at the Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland. During his tenure there he raised nearly $50 million dollars in a four-year capital campaign. Other achievements include the creation of a Faculty Recruitment and Retention Process, improved faculty salaries and benefits and the implementation of the New Teachers Institute.

    McGill also worked as Associate Head at Poly Prep in Brooklyn, New York. At the start of his career he spent fifteen years as a teacher/counselor in London, England.

    McGill received his Master of Education from the University of London Institute of Education where he also received a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education with Distinction. He earned a B.A. in English Literature and an Honors B.A. in History from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

  • Henderson International Student Accepted into Symphony

    Congratulations to eighth grader Rachel Wallace for her acceptance into the Las Vegas Youth Symphony, an organization within Las Vegas Youth Orchestras. It is the second year she has competed for a position as a clarinet player and won a seat. High school students from around Southern Nevada compete and only a few are selected after a rigorous audition. She will be the proud representative of The Henderson International School among other elite young musicians.

    Rachel has been playing the clarinet for six years and is dedicated to the art of performing music. She has also performed with the European Charity Tour sponsored by the Make A Wish Foundation. She is releasing her first album titled, “Handel and All That Jazz” on January 31, 2008 where she will be debuting as a recorded clarinet soloist.

  • Football Team Wins Opener

    The Wolverine high school football team opened the season on Friday with a convincing 52-0 win over visiting Sandy Valley High School.

    Led by freshmen Jay Sutorius (3 TDs), Keenan Gladd-Brown (2 TDs), and Charles Pachas (1 TD,)the Wolverines struck early and often. They raced out to 40-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

    Jon Dapper, Cole Fouch, Nick Powell, and Chris Miele led the defensive charge that forced 4 turnovers and 6 sacks.

    Up next for the Wolverines is a trip to Tonopah on September 11th for a 5:30 start.

  • Lady Wolverines Win Home Opener in Volleyball

    The Henderson International Lady Wolverines picked up their first with of the season on Tuesday night (9/3) by defeating Agassi Prep 3-1 in their home opener.

    Led by Fabi Pachas, Lauren Mushkin, Pamela Sakuma and Lee Harrison, they won two tight games en route to the victory.

    They return to action on the road on Thursday (9/4) against Calvary Chapel. The JV game is set to start at 4:00 and will be immediately followed by varsity.

  • Wolverines move to 2-0!

    The Henderson International High School Football Team improved to 2-0 on Thursday night with a 42-30 win over Tonopah.

    Jay Sutorius scored 5 touchdowns and Keenan Gladd-Brown added another as the Wolverines built a 24-2 halftime lead and never looked back.

    Logan Christie also aided the cause by throwing a pair of touchdown passes while Cole Fouch and Charles Pachas led the defensive attack.

    The Wolverines next travel to Laughlin on Friday - September 19th for a 4:00 start.


  • 5th/6th grade Volleyball teams are undefeated

    Both of the 5th and 6th grade girls Volleyball teams hold an undefeated record after winning their first two games of the season last week.

    On Thursday, both the White and Red teams swept the visiting Lake Meade Eagles with 2-0 victories.

    On Friday, the White team won again 2-0 against Green Valley Christian while the Red team posted an impressive comeback victory. After being down 10-0 in the 3rd game, the Wolverines came back to win the game 15-10 and the match 2-1.

    Both teams hit the court this week on Tuesday 9/16 at Lake Meade, on Thursday 9/18 at home and on Satuday 9/20 at Mountain View Christian Academy.

  • Middle School Volleyball Results for the week of Sept. 8th

    The Middle School Volleyball teams hit the court for their first action of the year last week hosting two home games on Thursday and Friday.

    On Thursday, both the Red and White teams come up a little short losing 2-0 in both contests.

    On Friday, Green Valley Christian just edged out our Red team in 2 games, while the White team gets it`s first win of the season beating GVCS in three close games.(25-18; 22-25; 16-14)

    The Wolverines hit the court on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this week at Lake Meade, at home for a Red/White game, and at Mountain View respectively.

  • Middle School Football wins first game of the season

    The Middle School football team shut out visiting Indian Springs last Friday, September 12th winning by a final tally of 32-0 in their first game of the 2008 season.

    The Wolverines next play this Saturday, September 20th at Mountain View Christian at 10:00am.

  • Varsity Volleyball improves record to 4-9

    The Henderson International Varsity Volleyball team swept visiting Adelson yesterday by a score of 3-0.

    The Wolverines were led by Pamela Sakuma with 7 kills, 5 aces and 6 digs on defense, Lee Harrison with 5 kills, 5 blocks and 4 digs of her own, and Lauren Mushkin with 4 aces and 5 kills as well.

    The win improves the Wolverines overall record to 4-9 as they enter league play on Saturday at Round Mountain at 1:00pm.




  • Wolverine Football Wins Again

    The Henderson International High School football team continued on a roll winning last Friday, September 19th, at Laughlin by a final score of 50-0. The Wolverines were led in scoring with efforts by Keenan Gladd-Brown and Jay Sutorius with two touchdowns each. Nick Powell and Brandon Harrison each rushed for a touchdown, while Logan Christie found Chris Miele in the endzone for the only passing score of the game.

    The Wolverines take the field next at home, this Friday September 26th at 4:00pm against Tonopah. The game is one of the many events scheduled as part of Homecoming Weekend for the Wolverines.



  • Middle School Football Wins at Mountain View

    The Middle School football team dominated at Mountain View Christian School this past Saturday, September 20th. The Wolverines offense tallied 40 points while the defense only allowed the home Saints to score 12 points for the game.

    The Wolverines look to continue their winning ways at Beatty this Saturday, September 27th at 10:00am.

  • Middle School Volleyball Results for Week of September 15th

    The middle school volleyball squad has had a busy week and a half. On September 16th the Wolverines traveled to Lake Meade Christian where the White team came back in the third game to pick up a win. (20-25; 25-7; 15-6) The Red team lost a tough match in two games. (10-25; 14-25)

    Thursday, September 18th, pitted the two Wolverine teams against each other on the hardwood. The White team came out with the victory in two games in a fun rivalry game.

    On Saturday the 20th, the team traveled to the north side to take on the Saints from Mountain View. The White team won in two games (25-17; 25-19) while the Red team came up short in their two games. (14-25; 14-25)

    In last night`s action, the Wolverines hosted the visiting Saints. Again the White team got the victory in two games. (25-13; 25-6) Despite a very close first game, the Red team lost in two games. (25-27; 18-25)

    Both the White and Red teams will next be in action tomorrow, September 25th, as they host Calvary Chapel for a pair of games. (6:00/7:00pm)

  • Middle School Football Beats Beatty

    The middle school football team traveled to Beatty last Saturday in search of another win. The Wolverines were victorious by a final score of 50-6.

    The Wolverines defend their home field against The Meadows School this Saturday at 10:00am.

  • 5th and 6th Grade Volleyball Results 9/25-9/30

    The 5th and 6th grade Volleyball teams have been working hard to improve this year. Last week the Wolverines hosted Calvary Chapel on Thursday, September 25th. In a very exciting match of the two undefeated teams in the league, the White team won a hard fought match in three games. (21-25, 25-3, 15-13) The Red team lost 0-2 in a tough match versus the Calvary Blue team.

    In a quadruple-header on Saturday, the Wolverines hosted Green Valley Christian. The White team picked up two victories winning 2-0 in the first match and 2-1 in the second. The Red team lost the first match 0-2, but came back to win the second match in three games 2-1.

    Last night both teams were in action again traveling to Lake Meade Christian Academy to take on the Eagles. The White team beat a much improved Eagle squad 2-0. (25-13; 25-29) The Red team swept the home team in impressive fashion winning by scores of 25-6 and 25-20.

    Both teams play again this Thursday (10/2) when they host Adelson for the first time this season at 3:30pm (White) and 4:30pm. (Red)



  • 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball Results 9/25 and 9/30

    The middle school Volleyball teams hosted Calvary Chapel on September 25th. Despite their best efforts, the Red (0-2)and White (1-2) teams lost tough matches against the Lions.

    Last night the Wolverines traveled to Lake Meade Christian Academy to take on the Eagles. The Red team came back in an exciting third game to win 2-1.(22-25; 25-19; 15-13) The White team came up short in two games losing 15-25 and 15-25.

    Both teams play next Thursday, 10/2 when they host the Adelson school at 5:30pm and 6:30pm respectively.

  • Middle School Football Wins Again (10/4)

    The middle school Wolverines football team played and beat The Meadows School by a final score of 54-6 this past Saturday, Ocotber 4th.

    The Wolverines will be back in action defending their home turf this Friday, October 10th, hosting the Calvary Chapel Lionsfor a 4:00pm start.

  • Poetic Justice

    Congratulations to The Henderson International School fifth graders who will be published in the book A Celebration of Young Poets. Students competed in a poetry contest conducted by publisher, Creative Communication, inc., in which more than 50% of her students’ poems were selected for publishing. The Henderson International School placed in the top 10% of all schools that entered the contest. The school’s name will be recognized in the book for receiving a “Poetic Achievement Award.”

    Book editor Thomas K. Worthen commented “The fact that you have numerous students accepted makes a strong statement about your school…With excellent teachers, come excellent poets…”

    The Henderson International School Head of School Jon McGill said, “We are honored to be recognized in such a worthy academic contest. This success is a testament of our excellent parents, teachers, and students who make up the school’s community.”

    Getting published at this young age is a tribute to the students who attend Henderson International. Books will be available later in the year and will be hard-bound.
